SCHOOLWIDE ESSAY PROMPT #18
BACKGROUND: Tonight, President Barack Obama will give our nation’s State Of The Union Address. It will be the President’s second such speech of his presidency. The State Of The Union Address, this evening, is expected to touch upon several key issues that are of major concern to the American Public: Health Care, the Economy, Unemployment, The War in Afghanistan, Corruption on Wall Street, and Education.
For each and every one of us, these issues affect our daily lives…
THE PROMPT: Please watch the State Of The Union Address tonight on television (6pm Pacific Standard Time, on any network television station or cable news channel) and examine the President’s speech. Feel free to watch expert analysis provided by commentators on television as you look for insight in answering the following question:
Which one of President Obama’s policy decisions affects your personal life the most. Think about all of the items on the President’s agenda, and consider why the one you choose so directly impacts you and your family. Then, as you conclude you response reflect on why “change” is sometimes a slow and methodical process. As our country bounces back from a recession, think about why our course is sometimes measured and extremely deliberate (instead of fast and exponential).
